DATE IDEAS WE LOVE

Dates are super important especially if you’ve been together for a while. Dating reaffirms that you are a “couple” when alot of the time it can seem that you're simply business partners, housemates or two people running around after the children.

Date night or afternoon gives you the opportunity to stay united with the person you’ve chosen to spend your life with, the one you fell in love with - not the person who didn’t make the bed or forgot to take out the rubbish.

Key reasons why going on dates with your partner are crucial are;

· They allow you to connect with each other, it’s not about just getting things done. Which is what daily life can sometimes be.

· Dates offer a much-needed break from the demands of everyday life.

· Dates are an opportunity to have some fun together.

· Going on dates shows a willingness to make the other person and your relationship a priority by setting aside special time.

In this week of love, we share with you 10 great date activity ideas. Ideas to make dates exciting and that goes beyond the usual drinks and meal out or going to the cinema. Number 4 is our favourite and one we totally recommend! Plus, you don’t have to break the bank; many are low or no cost activities.

1. Try star gazing in your garden or out in the countryside. Just take a blanket and gaze upwards together. If you’re the scientific type, you might get a star map and try to identify constellations.

2. Go to a public place (a train station, bus station, town square) and people watch. Make up stories about the people who pass you, as if you’re writing a novel.

3. Do a sport together or pay a game from your childhood – croquet, badminton, tennis, hide and seek, miniature golf. Reminisce and be playful together or have a healthy, competitive game.

4. Have a pretend you’re a tourist date by going on a Mini Adventure. Explore a location, solving clues and working together as a team to unlock treasure at the end and learn more about a new place.

5. If you don’t have a Mini Adventure location near you then just look around your home town and do the things a tourist might do – go to a scenic spot, or an interesting neighbourhood, a park, a museum, whatever is special about where you live. It doesn’t matter if you stand out, after all you’re a tourist.

6. Plan a “Favourites Night” around your favourite food, clothes, games, sports, etc. Each person could choose a favourite activity which you then combine into an evening, or the lady could choose her favourite things for one date and the man’s plans the next date with his favourites.

7. Visit your local zoo of farm park. Spring is often an especially engaging time as you’re likely to see some endearing babies and glorious flowers.

8. Volunteer somewhere together – a nursing home, a homeless shelter, clean up litter from a park or along your street.

9. Try an old-fashioned picnic in a secluded spot. Lay out a table cloth, some snacks or a meal.

Some wine might be a good idea. Perhaps read some romantic poetry to each other.

10. Take an early morning or evening bike ride together. Explore your local area or the countryside. Stop at a coffee shop for breakfast or get an ice cream or other treat along the way. In fact, stop whenever you feel the urge. It’s not a race, just a time to discover together.

So, what are you waiting for? Get your diaries out and arrange some dates with your other half. You won’t regret it.

We’d love to hear about any fun dates you’ve been on, you can share them with us in the comments.
